Output 1: Specification for the BIM-enabled Learning Environment (BLE)

Schedule: 2020-09-01 to 2021-06-01

Output Lead: Tallinn University of Technology

Brief Description

This Intellectual Output is aimed at developing the functional and technical (F&T) requirements for the BIM-enabled Learning Environment (BLE). In our preparation activities for this project, we have jointly developed the BLE concept at a theoretical level. As individual organisations, we have also piloted a small number of BIM-enabled learning experiences within the framework of our existing teaching programs. Together, these provide us with a solid starting point for defining the functional and technical requirements for the BLE (Intellectual Output O1) which, in turn will be the basis of developing the actual BLE (Intellectual Output O2).

Output 2: BIM-enabled Learning Environment (BLE)

Schedule: 2021-06-01 to 2022-06-01

Output Lead: Tampere University

Brief Description

The BLE platform: The design, data formats, protocols, functionalities and IT-solution which constitute a common, open learning environment which can act as a repository of learning materials and which will host the open learning resources (Intellectual Output O3) and pilot modules (Intellectual Output O4) developed as part of the BENEDICT project.

The resultant BLE platform will be the infrastructure for having a systemic solution for BIM-enabled learning. This refers here to unfolding the possible avenues for education and training where building information modelling (BIM) and its results are utilized in a pervasive manner for the learning benefits of new and existing professionals. The BLE platform integrates BIM technologies and their learning with traditional design and engineering studies rather than having separate modules and courses for learning BIM skills. Additionally, continuing education is relevant here for updating the skills of experienced professionals. The BLE platform is presented via its three educational dimensions: SPECTRUM, MODES and EXTENT. Additonally, the nature of the BLE platform as an IT-SOLUTION is also presented

Output 3: Open learning resources

Schedule: 2021-09-01 to 2022-06-01

Output Lead: University of Bologna

Brief Description

The BIM-enabled Learning Environment (BLE) shall take advantage of a repository of learning resources for providing all necessary services. Those resources are to be formed from sets of real (or near real) project data including i) Descriptions of projects, ii)Technical BIM models that have been checked for representing the appropriate data formats and for containing suitably consistent data at the desired level of detail, iii) Project plans linked to the technical building models (quantity take offs, schedules, cost estimates, resourcing, procurement of materials, components and other supplies)

Under this Intellectual Output, demonstration learning resources will be collected, developed and made available for the BLE. The total body of learning resources is expected to increase considerably as the BLE becomes more widely used.

Output 3 Report (15,3MB pdf document for download)

Output 4: Pilot modules

Schedule: 2021-09-01 to 2022-09-01

Output Lead: University of Bologna

Brief Description

The BIM-enabled Learning Environment (BLE) shall take advantage of the development of three pilot courses for providing all necessary services. Each partner institution will produce a pilot course in order to demonstrate the BLE: 1) Project Integration module lead by Tampere University; 2) Risk Management Module lead by Tallinn University of Technology; 3) Time Management module lead by University of Bologna. Under this Intellectual Output, demonstration pilot courses will be designed, implemented and evaluated by BLE users (teachers, learners).

Output 4 Report (Pilot Modules) (11,6MB pdf document for download)

Output 4 Report (Evaluation Toolbox for BIM-enabled Learning) (2,9MB pdf document for download)

Output 5: User guidance materials

Schedule: 2022-09-01 to 2023-03-31

Output Lead: Tallinn University of Technology

Brief Description

This Intellectual Output will produce the detailed guidance materials for the key users (teachers, learners, system administrators) of the BIM-enabled Learning Environment (BLE). These guidance materials will ensure that the BLE (developed as Intellectual Output O2) together with its pilot content (developed as Intellectual Outputs O3 and O4) are fully accessible for use by all BENEDICT project stakeholders. They will be central to the System for Sector-Wide BLE (intellectual Output O6) and for dissemination and exploitation of BENEDICT project results.

Output 6: System for Sector-Wide BLE

Schedule: 2022-12-01 to 2022-06-30

Output Lead: Tampere University

Brief Description

The system for the sector-wide use of BLE is to be developed based on the BIM-enabled Learning Environment (developed as Intellectual Output O2), open learning resources (O3) and pilot modules (O4). The BLE platform shall embrace the need of including different target groups. Rather than limiting its learning capabilities to the HEI degree programmes the BLE platform is to address training and educational needs of different sector-wide stakeholders. For this purpose, the BLE platform is to extend its learning solutions towards training of all construction professionals and special attention is to be placed on the development of collaboration capabilities between different parties. The special interest groups represented by the Associate Partners will be the main avenue for reaching different construction professionals.
